Who buys them down this end
The Kwinana industrial strip along Cockburn Sound runs on contractors, and contractors need lockable storage they can put down and pick up again: tool stores, parts rooms, laydown boxes and crib-room shells. Hire suits those jobs, and so does buying a cargo-worthy unit that can follow the crew from one site to the next.
In the suburbs it is the household story with a Rockingham twist. Boats and fishing gear for Safety Bay, Shoalwater and Port Kennedy, a second garage's worth of tools in Waikiki and Cooloongup, and room for everything a family collected before moving into a newer, smaller house in Wellard or Bertram. In Baldivis the older rural lots still carry horses, feed and farm machinery alongside the new estates, and a container is often the cheapest dry shed on the property.

We do not run a yard in Rockingham, Kwinana or anywhere in WA. Western Australian stock is held at a Fremantle depot operated by a third party, and a unit for this area is loaded there and trucked down. Nobody from our business is based locally.

What to check before you order in Rockingham
Six things to look at before you pick up the phone. None take long, and each one has caught somebody out.
Does the industrial site have access rules?
Plenty of sites in the Kwinana industrial area run gatehouse sign-in, inductions, restricted delivery windows, or particular PPE and paperwork for drivers. Find out what your site demands before we book, and give us the name of whoever controls the gate. A truck turned away at the boom gate helps nobody.
Limestone or loose sand?
Near the coast around Safety Bay, Shoalwater and Rockingham itself, limestone sits close to the surface — excellent for bearing and hard work to dig. Inland toward Baldivis and Wellard it is deeper grey sand. Loose, dry sand bogs trucks; compacted sand carries a container fine. Know which one your spot is.
Has the builder been digging there?
On newer lots, the strip beside the house often hides a trench of loose backfill over the plumbing, power or stormwater. It looks solid and it is not. Sit the corners on pads and keep clear of the line of the services.
Rural lot around Baldivis or Karnup?
Check the gate, the driveway surface and whether there are horses in the paddock the truck has to cross. Gates and animals are both easier to sort before the driver arrives. On sandy tracks, a firm surface matters more than width.
Where will the doors swing?
The afternoon south-westerly off Cockburn Sound is strong and regular. Face the doors downwind where you can, and give yourself a way to latch them open. A door slammed by a gust is how people break fingers.
Buying or hiring?
For a contract that will wrap up, hire often makes more sense than buying and reselling. For a permanent store on your own block, buying usually comes out cheaper over time. Tell us how long you expect to need it and we will price both.
Kwinana
Industrial sites: what makes a delivery go smoothly
Industrial yards in Kwinana and along Rockingham Road are usually the easiest ground we deliver to — flat hardstand, wide gates, room for a 40ft. What slows these jobs down is almost never the truck. It is paperwork, gate procedure, and nobody being there to say exactly where the box should land.
Name one person to meet the driver. Mark the spot. Send through the induction or access requirements with the order. If the container will sit near plant, tanks or pipework, check your own site's rules on separation and hot work before it arrives, because moving it later is a second delivery.
On the ground
Coastal blocks and the salt that comes with them
From Point Peron down to Secret Harbour the air carries salt most days. Paint is what stops a container rusting, so look after it: wash the sides now and then, dab rust-inhibiting paint on scratches, and keep the base clear of sand banks and garden mulch. The bottom rails and the door gear are where corrosion starts.
If the container is for anything valuable, cargo-worthy or new is the grade to buy — both are sold wind and watertight. As-is units are cheaper and are not sold watertight, which makes them fine as a project base or a lock-up under cover and a poor choice for a long-term store near the beach.
The drop itself
Most Rockingham and Kwinana homes with a normal driveway take a 10ft or 20ft off a tilt-tray. The truck reverses in, raises the bed and lets the container slide off onto the ground or onto pads. It needs a straight approach, firm footing and nothing low overhead — eaves, a patio, power lines or a big tree over the drive.
Where the house runs close to both boundaries and there is no straight run, a side loader can place the unit beside the truck instead. Over a fence or into a backyard with no vehicle access, it is a crane truck from the street. A 40ft is realistic in industrial yards and on larger rural lots; on most suburban blocks it is not.

Delivery is priced with the container for your particular address. Being close to Fremantle helps, but the truck your site needs and any site requirements make a bigger difference than the distance. You get one figure covering both on the quote.

No, and we will not pretend to be. We have no office, yard or staff in WA. Containers for this area are held at a third-party depot in Fremantle, and our sales team handles everything by phone and email. You can arrange to inspect a unit at the depot, or have photos of it sent before delivery.
Can you deliver into the Kwinana industrial area?
Yes. Send us the site's access requirements and a contact for the gate. Those sites are usually easy for the truck and occasionally slow on procedure, so getting the paperwork right first pays off.
What ground do I need for a container in Baldivis?
Firm and roughly level. Compacted sand is fine; loose, freshly worked sand is not. Pads or sleepers under the four corners keep the base even and let air move underneath.
Does a container count as a building here?
It can. The City of Rockingham and the City of Kwinana each take their own view depending on how long it stays, where it sits on the lot and what it is used for. Ring the right one before delivery.
Is hire cheaper for a short job?
For a few months, usually. For long-term storage, buying tends to win. We will price both so you can compare on your actual timeframe.
Will a container fit down the side of my house?
Measure the gap at its narrowest point — downpipes, meters and air-conditioner units included — and compare it with the widths on our dimensions page. Then think about how it gets there: a tilt-tray has to reverse straight in, so if the side access has a bend in it, it is a crane job.
