Getting the container there is not the hard bit. Long gravel driveways, tall karri and marri, low wetland ground near the bay and holiday-town rules are what need checking.

What goes in a container down here
The region lives on wine, tourism and building. Vineyards and wineries use containers for bottling supplies, cellar-door dry goods, bird netting, tools, and the vintage gear that sits idle most of the year. Builders — and there are plenty working between Busselton and Margaret River — use them as lockable site stores on house jobs.
Owners of holiday houses in Dunsborough, Yallingup and Gracetown use them to lock away linen, surfboards, kayaks and gear between stays. Farmers on the cattle and dairy country around Vasse, Metricup and Cowaramup keep feed and fencing gear in them. And people moving to the region full-time use one to hold the contents of the old house while the new one is finished.
Where your container is coming from
We have no depot, office or staff in the South West. Our Western Australian stock is held at a third-party container depot in Fremantle, and orders for the Capes are loaded there and trucked down.
An inspection at the Fremantle depot can be arranged if you would like to see the unit. If you would rather not make the trip, we will send photos of the actual container on request, before delivery.

What to check before you order in Busselton
The Capes have some of the most varied delivery sites in WA — beach sand, bay-side flats and forest blocks along one short stretch of coast. Here is what to check.
Forest block with big trees?
Karri, marri and jarrah around Margaret River, Cowaramup and Witchcliffe grow tall and spread wide. A tilt-tray needs clear air above it as the bed lifts. Where the canopy closes over the driveway, a crane truck placing from a clearing — or a different spot — is often the answer.
How long and how steep is the driveway?
Rural blocks through the Capes often have long gravel driveways with dips, creek crossings and sharp bends. A loaded truck needs firm footing the whole way and somewhere to turn. Photos taken along the driveway, not only at the house, tell us the most.
Is the ground near Busselton low and wet?
The land behind the bay around Busselton, Vasse and Wonnerup is flat and low, with wetlands and drains that fill through winter. Pick a raised, firm spot and set the container on pads. Water pooling at the door seals gets in; a container does not keep out rising water.
Bushfire: what surrounds the container?
Much of the Capes is bushfire-prone country. A container is not a fire shelter and will not protect what is inside from fire. Keep grass, leaf litter and firewood well clear of it, think hard before storing fuel in it, and site it where it will not block your own access or a firebreak.
Holiday rental, strata or estate rules?
If the property is a short-stay rental, or part of a strata or estate scheme, check the by-laws and the council's rules before a container arrives. What is fine on a farm is not always fine beside a holiday house.

Busselton, Dunsborough and Yallingup sit in the City of Busselton. Margaret River, Cowaramup and Augusta are in the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River. Ask the right one about approvals and firebreak requirements before delivery.
Margaret River
Vineyards, bush blocks and long driveways
The country between Cowaramup and Witchcliffe is gravelly loam over granite, rolling and timbered. It carries a truck well in summer and can turn greasy after winter rain, particularly on the clay patches at the bottom of a slope. Tell us if your driveway runs downhill to the house, because the truck has to climb back out.
On a vineyard or winery, think about where the container will earn its keep at vintage: close enough to the shed to save walking, clear of where bins and machinery move, and somewhere a truck can reach again if you ever want it shifted.
On the ground
Geographe Bay, sand and salt
Right along Geographe Bay, from Busselton through Abbey and Broadwater to Dunsborough, blocks mostly sit on sand close to sea level. Firm, compacted sand is fine under a container. Soft, freshly dug sand is not.
Living by the water means salt on the steel. Look after the paint, wash it down now and then, and keep the base clear of sand drifts. A new or cargo-worthy unit — the grades sold wind and watertight — is worth the extra if the container is staying near the beach for years.

Building down south: site boxes and staged moves
A lot of containers in the Capes arrive at the start of a house build and leave at the end of it. If that is you, talk to your builder before you order. They will know where the slab, the scaffold, the skip and the concrete truck need to go, and a container dropped in the wrong corner on day one gets in the way for months.
If you are moving into the region and the new house is not finished, a container on the block — or at a relative's place — can hold the contents of the old one. Pack it tight, load the heaviest things low and towards the front wall, and keep a clear aisle so you can reach the box of paperwork you will inevitably need. Hire makes sense when you know it is temporary; buying makes sense when it will end up as the garden shed.
Getting it in
On a town lot in Busselton or Dunsborough, a tilt-tray usually does the job if there is a straight run in and clear air overhead. Tight holiday-house blocks with no side access may need a side loader or crane.
On a rural block, the truck's path from the road to the spot matters most: firm ground, width through the gates, clearance under branches, and somewhere to turn around. A 40ft needs a lot of room and is mostly a farm or vineyard job.

Common questions from Busselton to Margaret River
Do you have a yard in Busselton or Margaret River?
No. We have no local premises in the South West. WA stock is held at a third-party depot in Fremantle — inspection there can be arranged, or we send photos of the exact unit before delivery.
Can you deliver to a vineyard?
Yes. Tell us where on the property it is going, what the tracks are like, and whether trellis rows, netting or overhead lines are in the way. Photos of the route in help us send the right truck.
Is a container a safe place during a bushfire?
No. Do not shelter in one and do not rely on it to protect contents from fire. Follow the fire authorities' advice for your area, and keep the ground around the container clear of fuel.
Can I keep one at a holiday house?
Often, but check with the City of Busselton or the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River first, and with the strata or estate if there is one. The rules for a residential lot are not always the same as for a farm.
Will it get mouldy inside?
It can if damp things are locked in without airflow. Fit vents, dry towels, wetsuits and linen before they go in, and choose a cargo-worthy or new unit to keep the rain out.
What if the driveway is too steep?
Then we tell you before booking. Sometimes the answer is a different spot nearer the road, sometimes a crane truck. Far better to hear it on the phone than have the driver turn around.
