Bardon and Paddington are not a flat reverse
Paddington, Bardon, Red Hill and Ashgrove were built on slopes, with short drives and camphor over the gutter. A tilt bed that has to rise on that grade grounds the deck or meets a limb. Those jobs are a crane from the start, with a standing spot on the street and the power noted.
Flats
Silt that looks firm after a dry fortnight
Around Rocklea, through Oxley, and on the silt back toward the river, a yard can look solid and then yield under a corner casting once a wet week arrives. Northgate and Chermside are generally kinder to a rigid than the streets that climb off Waterworks Road. Goodna, on the western edge, starts to feel like a different booking from a Paddington cottage.
Yards
Wacol and Archerfield let the box stay near the ground
Factory yards at Wacol, Richlands, Rocklea and Archerfield are the other story. A wide aisle lets a side loader or a tilt bed finish without a lift over a fence. Everton Park is where a lot of the tight infill lock-ups are going in, a house-side gap rather than a hardstand.

A 20ft still has to clear the side yard
External width, not the internal figure, is what has to pass the downpipe and the meter box. A 10ft is the one that lives down a house side. A 40ft almost never will, unless the block is a yard with room beside the truck. Measure before you fall in love with the longer shell.
Steep drives, cranes and side yards
What stops a tilt bed on a steep Bardon drive?
The deck grounds on the break of slope, or a limb sits where the bed wants to rise. If either is true, book the crane at the start. A photo from the footpath, looking up the drive, shows it.
When should a Brisbane job be a crane from the outset?
When the only path is over a fence, the drive bends around the house, or the street is one of the ridge ones with no straight run. Settling that before the day is locked saves a truck that cannot finish.
Will a 20ft leave any side yard on a tight block?
Sometimes, if you measured the external width against the narrowest point, downpipes included. Many inner blocks only have room for a 10ft. The longer shell belongs on a yard that can take it beside the truck.
