What Palmerston households and businesses put in them
Palmerston is a young, fast-growing city, and much of it is newer estate housing — Zuccoli, Johnston, Mitchell, Bellamack, Durack — on lots where the house takes up most of the land. Families use a container for the overflow: bikes, camping and fishing gear, and outdoor furniture that will not fit in a single garage.

What to check before you order in Palmerston
Palmerston deliveries are usually quick work for the truck. These are the things that turn them into slow ones.
Does your estate have rules on outbuildings?
Newer estates often have design guidelines or covenants covering outbuildings and what can be seen from the street. Check your purchase documents, or ask the developer, before a container arrives.
Is the side access wide enough?
On estate lots the gap between the house and the fence is often too tight for a truck. If the container has to go in the backyard, measure the access and send a photo. It may need a crane from the street, or a different spot.
What is the ground like after rain?
Lawns and unsealed areas turn soft in the wet. A truck that can drive over them in August may bog in February. If the spot is on grass, tell us and we will plan around it.
Where will the water go?
Heavy tropical downpours move a lot of water across a block quickly. Do not put the container across the natural fall of the land or where roof runoff pools. Raise it on solid pads so water passes underneath.
Does it need to stay dry through the wet?
Then buy a grade sold wind and watertight: cargo-worthy or new. As-is units cost less and are not sold watertight, which in a Top End wet season means water inside.
Will it sit there through cyclone season?
If the container will sit on the block through the wet, ask the City of Palmerston and a building certifier what is expected, including tie-down. We do not provide ratings or certification.

Estate lots and tight access
Palmerston's newer suburbs were planned around cars, not trucks. Lots are compact, driveways are short and fences go up quickly. A tilt-tray needs a straight run and room to lift its bed, and on many estate lots the only place that works is the front of the block or the driveway itself.
If the container is going in the backyard, the choices are a side loader through a wide gate, or a crane lifting over the fence or the house. Photos of the frontage, the side access and the backyard let us tell you which, and what is involved.

Humidity and what it does to stored goods
Months of high humidity through the build-up and the wet turn a sealed container into a damp box. Anything organic — clothing, mattresses, cardboard, leather, timber furniture — can go mouldy, and bare metal tools can rust.
Vent the container, use moisture absorbers and change them often, keep goods on pallets and away from the walls, and open it up to air out on dry days. If you are storing a household's furniture for months, wrap it in breathable covers rather than plastic, which traps the moisture in.
Worth knowing
Yarrawonga and commercial sites
Commercial and light industrial sites around Yarrawonga generally have hardstand and room to move, which makes delivery straightforward, 40ft units included. What slows these jobs down is gate access, other vehicles in the yard, and nobody there to say exactly where it goes.
Mark the spot, clear it, and have someone on site. If the container is to sit on a slab, check the slab can carry it, including the point load under each corner.
For a business, think about what the container will do in a year's time as well as now. If it may need to move when the lease changes, keep it somewhere a truck can reach again. If it will hold stock, put the doors where a forklift or pallet jack can work, and give it a light and a lock you trust.
The delivery itself
A tilt-tray reverses in, raises its bed and slides the container off. It needs firm ground, a straight approach and headroom — watch for eaves, carports, power lines and trees.
A 40ft is rarely possible on a residential lot in Palmerston. It needs a long run and a lot of space. On commercial sites it is usually fine.
Tell us about the street as well as the block. Some of the newer streets are narrow, with cars parked along both sides on weekends and bins out on collection day. A truck that has to set up on the road needs room to work, so a quiet weekday is often the easier choice, and a word to the neighbours helps.
